Been a while since I've chimed in here. There are a lot of reasons for that including the fact most people simply don't take time to read blog posts these days. We are all too busy binge-watching, and skimming social media to truly sit down and read longer forms. Sadly this applies to books as well and yet I continue to write. Though since moving to California the siren song of screenwriting has begun whispering in my ear and little by little I am doing more of that. Currently I am sitting in a Dunkin Donuts typing this as the powdered remains of a Bavarian Kreme decorates my beard. The beard is longer these days but also has a bit more of its own white adornment. What else is new? Well my latest novel, THE GOOD FORTUNE OF BAD LUCK is out as of yesterday. Come all ye faithful, for it ‘tis that time of year where “Best Of” lists are plentiful as curbside bell ringers. I won’t HO HO HO you, asking for a donation, but I do hope you will take a moment to read this list of my personal favorite albums of 2019. I also won’t pretend my tastes do not run to the raw and vulnerable over the glossy and upbeat. Sam Outlaw - Hat Acts [EP Review]

I was bummed to learn Sam Outlaw recently moved from LA to Nashville. This dismay is multifaceted. The West Coast is lacking in traditional country voices, Nashville has corrupted the sound of more than one artist, and I like the fact Outlaw writes songs about things beyond the country norm. Such as this one from his 2017 album Tenderheart ... But I get it. Artists have to chase the dream and yes, Tennessee is rife with song factories pumping out Bro-Country pablum to the masses, but it is also home to John Prine, Jack White, Jason Isbell, Sheryl Crow and countless others creating genuine music across many genres. I hope Outlaw doesn't get swayed by the execs sitting behind the desks. Now on to a closer look at this new EP.
